Five Great Christmas Desserts to Bake with Kids
As everyone gathers together for the holidays, excitement fills the air. The kids have their last day of school before break, and the energy seems to build every minute as we inch closer to Christmas morning. If your kids and grandkids are anything like my kids, it is wise to plan ahead and find ways to fill the time. I love free play, but my girls tend to spiral into whirling dirvishes if I let the whole day run on free time. So, this week Iām sharing five great Christmas desserts to bake with the kids in your life over the holidays. You can thank me later.
Chocolate Hazelnut Thumpbrints with Kahlua Ganache
Thumbprints just beg to have little fingers pressed into the dough. These ones check all the boxes. They look fancy, taste delicious, and are fun for the kids to make. The kahlua ganache is not too strong, either. My little ones like them (and they hate anything I simmer in wine).
Peppermint Bark Cookies
Would it even be Christmas without some peppermint? These cookies are chewy underneath and crisp on the top. A win for anyone who loves the classic combination of mint and chocolate.
Pomegranate-Glazed Shortbread Wedges
Do you have any little girls in your life who love anything pink and glittery? These cookies are for them. They are sweet, fruity, and feel fit for a princess. Pro Tip: Make the dough ahead of time. This will greatly limit how long your little princesses have to wait to ice them and add the sugar sprinkles.
Iced Gingerbread Oatmeal Cookies
My girls love oatmeal cookies, and I love gingerbread. So, naturally, we had to try this beautiful combination. And let me tell you, they are very worth the calories.
Dark Chocolate-Orange Gingerbread Cake
Feeding a crowd this Christmas Eve or Christmas Day Dinner? This cake is the perfect way to wind up a family holiday meal. Growing up, my mom used to always put chocolate oranges in our stockings, so chocolate and orange will always seem like Christmas to me.
Bonus: Here is my old-fashioned sugar cookie recipe. It took me a long time to find a sugar cookie recipe that actually worked well with cookie cutters and little fingers. This one is the winner!
