Holes Reading Guide

Holes is one of my favorite novels of all time for intermediate readers. I highly recommend it for students in grades 5-8 or advanced readers in grade 4. Scholastic Book Wizard places it at a guided reading level V or 660L Lexile level.

This book explores themes of friendship, identity, and belonging that will resonate with most middle school students. It is darkly humorous in a kid and young adult friendly way. I have read this book with many students, and I have yet to meet one who didn’t enjoy reading it.

My comprehensive reading guide is designed to increase reader engagement with the text, foster deeper understanding of the plot, and invite students to picture themselves in the story. I hope you and your student(s) enjoy using and discussing it as much as mine did!
